Using the HDMI Connection

HDMI is used with older laptops that don’t have USB-C ports, and for media Players that can play Blu-ray discs or DVDs. But if you are using a device that has a USB-C port, please use that first before doing anything with the HDMI cord.

If you are using an older device that doesn’t have a USB-C port or an HDMI port, you’ll need to purchase your own video adaptor. Please feel free to send us an e-mail at av.fpm.wisc.edu if you need advice on which product to purchase.

Furthermore, if you are using an HDMI connection, it is recommended that you plug your laptop power adapter into the user power outlet near the top of the podium, which is usually right around here (Green Arrow).

The user outlet is also useful if you have a portable Blu-ray player that can play DVDs or Blu-ray movies. Note, the podium outlets only power on when you login with your AV Passcode.

So now that you are logged in, please take the HDMI cable that is by the touch panel and plug it into your  HDMI port or HDMI Video Adaptor. After it is plugged in, then press the HDMI button to activate the projector.

When you select a video input like the USB-C icon or the Doc Cam, it will be grayed out, showing that it’s been selected.

In the next part of our tutorial, we’re going to show you how to quickly resolve a common error your MacBook might have when it first connects to an AV System, and how to quickly display what you need to show on the projection screen.

To find out how and to proceed with the tutorial, please press the “Projector Mute” button right on the bottom of the Touch Panel.

Tip about playing Physical Media

If you own a multi-media player  and want to show DVD’s or Blu-rays in the classroom, you will need to press the “Protected Content Button” on the Classroom Touch Panel.
